"Strengthening Your Personal Development through Community Engagement" -Vanessa Arnaud, Ph.D.11/10/2017 In the article, Arnaud talks about exploring and going beyond what you are used to. Arnaud emphasizes that community engagement is one of the most effective ways of exploring your life's priorities and values. The author also states that there are many different things we should learn about and explore to gain more knowledge, The author also advises that learning about social issues that exist throughout the world today is important and can be a big help in the performance of students. By knowing these important issues, it pushes students to learn more of a larger audience as Arnaud states in the article. "Involvement and commitment to your community will enhance your understanding of your own personal strengths and weaknesses." I agree with this part of the article because by being involved in many different things and also being able to experience different things will allow you to learn more about yourself and also figure out what you can and can't do, as well as learning what you want to do in life. I think that being openminded and out in the community allows people self-exploration to find themselves. "The Developing College Student" -Virginia N. GordonIn the article, Gordon states that from research they have found that many college students develop and change throughout their college experience. I believe that this is true because in my opinion college is a place where people learn and grow as well as a place for self-exploration. Gordon also states that they have found phases that links the students view of whats around them. These phases are dualistic, multiplistic, and relativism. Another theorist also discovers seven developmental tasks that students move during college. These seven tasks are achieving competence, managing emotions, moving through autonomy toward interdependence, developing mature interpersonal relationships, developing purpose, and developing integrity. I really enjoyed this article. I learned many tasks and phases college students go through during their time in college as we learn and grow.
